Как сделать так, чтобы пользователь при регистрации попадал в определенную группу "по умолчанию". Где это настраивается в админке?

Что тут непонятного? Берите группу пользователи и настраивайте под себя

после регистрации чел переходит в группу - пользователей. ну так меняйте название, права, или что вы там хотели.
